Kay Blake is a fellow member of the RWA NYC chapter I belong to and she has a new book coming out! It’s my pleasure to share her author story with you today!

Author Photo 1_Aug 27 2017When did you realize or decide you wanted to be a writer?

I honestly always loved writing. I wrote poems, songs, fan fiction, stories all the time. I didn’t get serious about it though until 2015.

What has been your best experience as an author so far?

I have so many. But I would now have to add the Brooklyn Book Festival was an awesome experience and my first romance book reading in April 2017 at Lady Jane’s Romance reading.

What sort of challenges have you faced as a writer? How did you overcome them?

I think more so I don’t write things I know all the time, so I always want to be authentic in my voice, but also in the ethnicities that I write.

Catch Me If I Fall SIBA NomHow do you research and plan your books? Do you find outlining helps or hinders your process?

I don’t outline. It never goes the way I plan, so I plan. But depending on what I’m writing about, I use books, google and people I know.

Have you learned anything really cool or interesting while researching your books? What’s been the weirdest research you’ve ever had to do?

I write erotica under a pen name and I had to research shower heads which was pretty interesting. Lol.

What advice would you give to new writers in the field?

Be you. Keep going. And write a little everyday.

Tell us a little about your writing nook! Favorite tea/coffee/writing snack?

I honestly don’t snack when I write. I do listen to music though and that ranges from many genres.

I knew you were trouble ebook.pngOf all of your own characters, who would you most want to date?

Uh Probably It is a three way tie. Ethan, Liam and Jae. They all have qualities I like.

What project are you currently working on?

Book 2 in The Kim Brothers Series called Free Me. (Editing mostly)

What’s next for you?

I’m doing 3 collab projects. One YA story with a fellow writer. A collab with another writer, and a story that will be a series from men in a type of bachelors fraternity. Also Book 3 of my series. Those are my goals for next year.
